How can I get mold off my bridle?

My horse passed August 11, and I have finally decided to clean his tack. I live in the South, so it’s really damp and sticky out here in the summers and tack can get really nasty. Do you have any tips on how I can get mold off my horses bridle?

well i just cleaned someone else’s bridle for them and it was very moldy.

Just use leather cleaner, conditioner, etc. there are some brands that have a three-step product. you use 1 to do something for it, 2 for another thing, 3 for another, get those.

Use an old toothbrush and scrub like heck. you can also use your fingernail or a coin.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It’s hard when you lose a horse, but you’ll get over it if you havn’t already.

  1. Clean as usual with soap, or effax cleaner. Then you treat it with a mold inhibitor such as this from Smart Pak. http://www.smartpakequine.com/productclass.aspx?productClassid=7364 It helps prevent more problem in the future, and kills what is there now.

I’m very sorry for your loss. It took me a long time to address my best boy’s tack when I lost him. Some horses are just your soulmate, and their loss is hard to recover from.

  2. My girlfriend bought a bunch of old tack that was covered in mold. She bought glycerin from the pharmacy and said it took the mold right off and it was easy to use and inexpensive.
