What is the correct way to put away an English bridle?

I don’t really know how to explain this. I’ve seen people do it at the barn all the time. Anyway, when they’re done using their bridle they do something with the reins and throatlatcg and noseband and it makes it look all nice and neat. This is so it doesn’t get tangled up, apparently. I have no idea how to do it, and i’m curious to know! If anyone knows what Im talking about, please respond! Thanks somuch.

What I do is make a figure eight in the reins by twisting them once, hold the reins and the headstall in one hand, wrap the nose band twice around the reins and all, then do up the throat latch the same way, making sure I go through the reins with it. I personally don’t do up the buckles, just slip the ends into the keepers so its easier to get undone the next time I ride.

I know exactly what you mean. And even though I’ve ridden for years, it still confuses me. Honestly, it really doesn’t matter how you put up the bridle.

If you don’t like the "fancy" way, just do what most average riders do: Make sure the bridle isn’t tangled, and that the leather bands, straps, etc. are all untwisted. Then just set the nose band piece neatly in the middle and hang the end of the reins and headband on the nail. And there ya go. Haha.

When im finished riding i put the rains through the throatlash and do it up, i suppose you can also do the nose band up too so it stops the rains from dragging along the floor, it looks like they have been put in a loop so when you hang your bridle up its all together instead of the rains hanging on the floor and getting ruined. :) x

Yes, there is a correct way to put away an English bridle. It is often called ‘figure eighting’ the bridle.

Try Googling ‘how to figure eight bridle.’

    1. You get the top of the bridle in one hand.
    2. Get the reins with the other hand.
    3. Take the reins by the top part ie. the part that you hold while you ride and loop it through the nose band.
    4. Take the throatlatch and fasten the throatlatch under the reins.
    5. Release them and they’re neat.

It’s hard to explain but hope I helped.

OK here is what I do. Pretend the horse has a halter on, even though it doesn’t matter.

    1. Stand on left side
    2. I grab the area above the nose (right hand
    2. slip reins over head, and hold bridle with left hand
    3. I put the bridle now in my right hand so the bridle is touching the horse
    4. I put the bit in the horses mouth with my left hand
    5. i pull up the bridle with my right hand and slip the ears into it, now its all messed
    6. i sort everything out so it’s in its proper place
    7. i do the nose band
    8. i do the browband
    9. DONE!

The throatlatch is actually wrapped around the the entire headstall in a figure 8 (criss crosses in the front) and then buckles. I wouldn’t have the reins hanging from the throatlatch as it can cause the leather to stretch. if not figure eighted. Depending upon the type of bit..if a curb with chain, I loop the reins and hang on the curb chain and fasten the curb hook. I run the cavesson strap through the keepers.

I never do this personally, but I do pony club and the require it. You take the throat lash and put it through the reins without doing up the buckle, just putting it through the keeper. Then you put the noseband around everything, again without buckling it, just putting the strap through the keepr.
