What is a Baby Pad?

March 12010

I was tack shopping online for a new saddle pad, and i kept coming across a ‘Baby Pad’. It looks like what i want, but i wasnt sure why it was called that. Is it ok to use for a 16.1 hh TB?
Epona–your link doesnt work….but i think i know what you mean. Thanks!

A baby pad is a very thin pad that goes under a half pad. H half pad is a pad that is very thick and shaped like the saddle but it does not come down to protect the sides of the horse where the flaps of the saddle hits which is why more people use a baby pad underneith it. It is fine to use on any horse but make sure that you use a half pad over it other wise it is not enough padding and could hurt your horses back.

Where can I find a horse to lease?

February 272010

I’m looking to lease a Morgan horse in Missouri for riding and local shows. Nothing big, just a step higher from my mare who can’t be ridden for awhile. I can’t find any online through Dreamhorse, Horsetopia, and Equine.com for leasing, only buying. The farrier/vet doesn’t know of anyone, neither do tack shops. All I want to do is lease one, not buy. Any suggestions?

Any help is appreciated.

I know that Morgans aren’t overly popular in my area. I would suggest that you contact the local Morgan association and simply phone all the breeders.

Horseback riding tack question?

February 252010

Hey. So i need to get this kind of lunge whip but its not really a normal lunge whip that. Its looks like a really long crop, and in the top little square that is leather, thers a hole and attacthed to that hole is a thicker string just as long as it is on a normal lunge whip. My trainer says that this kind is called training stick, handy stick, or carrot stick. I cant find any at any tack shops, so i need to order one online, but i cant find ANY sites selling them. Can you give me any links that sell them, if you can understand what i was explaining lol?

Thanks

it’s hard to find those things online. have you tried petsmart.com? or the tractor supply at http://www.tscstores.com/…

were can i get an extreme climate winter horse blanket?

February 212010

i have looked on ebay, online stores, local tack shops, and i cant find one. i am moving to a really cold place with my horse and need something that will keep him really warm because he is use to florida. it needs to be an exteme climate one (with maching boots and full hood), not just any regular one.
i know that you can put flece coolers under their regular blankets to make them warmer, but i dont think thats enough.
if anyone can help i would be very grateful.
thanks

How Can This be Such Good Quality?

February 192010

I am going to buy a jet black Quarter Horse from the nearby shelter. I am starting to find supplies and buy them from the local tack shop and online tack shops.
I was wondering is this good quality? I do mostly Western Pleasure, and Trail Riding. Although, I want to use this for Barrel Racing. I really want to know what people think about it because its cheap, but I can’t tell if its good quality or not.

Can this work for barrels?

Please, forget the other two links, is this a good saddle?
http://www.buytack.com/products/saddles/act/20532.htm
It looks nice and for $100 more it comes with girth, bridle and a breast collar.

I wouldn’t get that saddle. Largely due to the fact that it’s a 10 inch seat. It’s a child’s saddle (and a young child at that.) You will probably need a 14-inch seat or larger. Abetta makes some fairly good quality synthetic saddles, which run about twice that price, so you might want to look at those.
