Dover Saddlery tack shop?

March 52010

Posted in tack shop | 6 Comments »

I want to open up a Dover Saddlery tack shop. I heard that there aren’t that many in the US so if I open one up in a good area, then I could make good money. Will owning a dover saddlery make me good money or is it sort of a waste of time? My parents don’t won’t me to have a horse business because they say it doesn’t make good money for me to have a nice house and all that. I love horses way too much and I want to have some kind of business with them. I want to have horse boarding which makes good money if you have the right facility and all that. I also want to buy, train, and sell horses. I really want to find whats going to work for me. I am not planning on becoming rich but I would like to have a nice house and beautiful barn and property for me and my horses and still have some money to spend for extra things. Also, Does any of you believe that dressage trained horses usually sell better/faster. My favorite is jumping but I would be willing to do mainly dressage training with my horses to sell so I make good money. I really love horses and want to have a business with them because I can be full-time horses. Not have to go to a job then come home and only have a tiny bit of time for my horses. Thanks! and just let me know any info you can as my question is sort of a couple questions.

There are actually quite a few Dover Stores across the United States with more opening every year. You cannot simply "open" a Dover Store. They are controlled by owner in addition to a small committee. They decide where they want new stores to be built and once they have made that decision they hire people from that area, starting with a general manager who more or less is the "boss". If you are really serious about opening a tack store or going into a like horse business field, go to college and get a bachelor’s degree.

how to clean suede half chaps? and Tack shop fun?

February 212010

Posted in tack shop | 3 Comments »

I have black suede half chaps with velcro like these: http://www.equestriancollections.com/mmEQC/Images/eq/4890/full.jpg

how can I get them clean?

also…I’m going to the tack shop tomorrow. I need breeches and some leather cleaner for my show boots. I don’t have a ton of money and I don’t have my own horse. What else could I look at buying? thanks :)

To clean them use a damp cloth to wipe the dirt off,
If there is caked on mud, scrape it off with a knife first.

Gloves, Helmet, t-shirts, a Cap, Waterproof riding jacket, grooming kit, first-aid kit, jumping boots, leg bandages.

Once you get in your tack shop, just walk round and buy whatever you think you’ll need.

Don’t buy things for your horse (rugs, saddles) cause you won’t know what size to get.

Don’t buy whips spurs etc, you don’t know if you’ll need them yet..

Don’t buy the whole shop!!! haha happy shopping :)
