Well, I’m going to college this fall for a Horse Science Technology Program, and I have a list of supplies I am required to bring. I have most of the things on the list and I know what all but three of the things are that I still have to purchase. I am a WP FREAK and we are required to ride Balanced Seat and Dressage which I am very unfamiliar with. I am familiar with HUS but that’s totally different from Dressage with what tack I need to use. Well I am required to have a specific type of Dressage Pad for my classes.

1.) It’s a Tacky Tack ™ Non-slip English Dressage Shaped Pad with wear leathers. Well, I searched online and have had NO luck. Every tack shop around here is Western based because a majority of the stables are converting to reining (it sucks). So I was wondering, Does anyone know where I could find one of these pads? And have you had any experience with one? How much do they usually run?

Sorry this is so long but here are my other two questions:

2.) What all comes in a braiding kit? I have the pulling comb but what else is there? I only know of the supplies for banding and I use bands to braid so I don’t know what the actual supplies are. Also, can you buy a full braiding kit? If so, where?

3.) The sheet of supplies says, “Sheet Cotton, double sized sheets, package of 12”. What do they mean? It’s listed right under track bandages and polo wraps so I didn’t know if it was like the quilted pillow wraps that go under the track bandages since it was together.

Thank you for all your help! You guys are seriously AWESOME. You have helped me with sooo much!!! : )
~Kayla
BTW I have ridden english before i do english pleasure, I use to compete in HUS on my old lease horse and we placed 1st or 2nd in every class at all the shows also i have done some BASIC dressage moves but they have been in an all purpose english or a western saddle…i’ve done side passes, leg yields, figure eights, extended trot…i just haven’t done an actual pattern…(sorry i wasn’t specific before ) lol hope this information helps!!!

1.) No luck with the first one either, sorry! Maybe call the school and ask them where they recommend you get one.

2.) In your braiding kit, you will need yarn or rubber bands the color of the horses mane, a latch hook or a plastic needle to pull the braids through, and seam ripper/scissors to cut the braids out, and a bottle of quick braid really helps. Those are the basics, you can see a deluxe kit here: http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp?pn=X1-10106&ids=214552433

3.) Sheet cotton is part of a first aid bandage, such as this: http://www.SmartPakEquine.com/ProductClass.aspx?productclassid=5083

July 2008 was given a horse from my neighbor-
9year old, 15h, QHx.
She broke him out a as a 3 year old and rode him western on trails, her daughter rode him English.
Well, how I got him- long story but the short version was the daughter had gotten into an accident with the horses half brother and she ended up dieing(very sad) but the women sold everything horse related and gave away what she couldn’t sell. She couldn’t sell the horse, so offered him to me to replace a horse I had put down earlier that summer.

Well, since then I can not find a saddle for him. He’s so awkwardly shaped, his back anyways, that nothing fits him, the women who gave me to said she didn’t know the saddle that her daughter rode him in but it was bought for$800-1200 new. I’ve made templets of his back and have not been able to find a saddle it fits into.

I’ve tried Collegiates, Wintecs(the none Easy Change Gullets fit), Bates, and Henri De Rivels.
I’ve sent his back templet to local tack shops asking if they have saddles that fit and they couldn’t find any that fit.
In all, I’ve tried 20+ saddles in the last 18 months and none fit, I would have never guessed it’s so very stressful not having a fitting saddle. But I’ve ended up riding him bareback since I’ve had him.

He has narrow withers, but a nice pair of broad shoulders, smooth/fat back, and slightly flat/curved topline.
Do any of you have anything in mind of something that would fit?
I need a 16.5-17inch saddle. All purpose/close contact.

Expensive or not I don’t care at this point. color not a factor just something that fits

Please&thank you so much.
/r/25smxqx/6
/r/1zoxpxc/6

Put tinypic(dot)com and you’ll see pictures of him

You could try out a Courbette with their "Flexible E-Motion Tree and Panel Concept". Courbettes are good quality saddles and aren’t too expensive. I bought a new Cresta Junior all purpose saddle from ebay, and it does in fact fit a variety of horses with the flex tree. If you can, get one on trial first so you can see if it fits your hard to fit horse or not before you buy it.

Alright everyone, I need a new or used All Purpose or Dressage saddle for my husband. I don’t want to spend a lot due to the fact that he has just started riding english and I’m not sure he is going to stick with it (he is more of a western guy). I would like to spend around $500 on a saddle that preferably comes with leathers and irons. Bridle and pad would be a plus but not necessary. He needs a size 17.5-18" seat and wide tree. NO SYNTHETIC unless it is really nice! I’ve already looked on ebay but wasn’t impressed. Any good/cheap horse websites? Used tack shops? Anything will help! Thanks!
I found this saddle that looks decent, but does anyone have experiance with this brand??
http://www.tackwholesale.com/paris-tack-dressage-saddle-piece-p-58.html
I live in the Ohio/WV area.
I’m looking for online ads and tack shops! I live in an area with almost NO tack shops so its harder to find horse equipment. I need online sources!
Thanks everyone for the input. However I’ve been in the horse industry for years as will only be needing it for a few months tops. I want to make sure he is going to stick with riding english before I buy a high end saddle like the Passier Grand Gilbert dressage saddle I already own. I was just hoping someone may know of good sites online for used saddles or near where I live… So please don’t be negative and if you can’t give me links or actual help in finding a saddle, DON’T ANSWER!

I honestly suggest re-checking eBay, and taking a look on Craigslist or Kijiji, and looking for a used saddle from a brand that sells for at least $1500 new.

Do not buy those $500 tack packages. They are incredibly cheaply made, and can seriously mess up a horse’s back because in most instances, they will not fit well.
Just think about it- if a decent saddle sells for $1500 (and a good one for $2500), leathers are around $50+, and a good bridle is over $100… how can you expect to get anything quality at $500 for the whole set?

Also try http://www.tacktrader.com for used saddles.

in the (kinda) near future i would like to be a groom, or exercise rider.. currently i can’t drive (so i want to wait untill i can) , but i believe i have the skills to do this..
anyway, how should i go about "sellling myself" i can’t do this at my barn because my trainer’s daughter is my age, and when someone needs their horse ridden they ask her…
I was thinking of putting up a poster in the surrounding barns, and in the local tack shops.. something simple like
"high school student, willing to exercise, groom for shows, or school horses of any age. Experience with hunters, english and western pleasure, and dressage. call….."

does that sound okay? anything else i should say?
I’ve been riding for 7 years, and have re trained many horses.. so i wouldn’t be worried dealing with different horses.

Also: how much should i charge? Should i make a release form allowing me to be in contact with their horse?

anything appreciated!
i don’t want alot of money, basically just compensation for driving…

i guess i dont want money, just to put myself out there as a rider, and eventually a trainer.
hows this:
High School student willing to groom at shows or exercise horses of any age. Experience in dressage, hunters, and pleasure (both western and english)
Currenty training dressage, but year end awards in the NSHA pleasure series. Experience with many different horses, willing to ride anything!
Contact me at….
i would also put riding 7 years, and then name my different trainers (who are willing to be contacted as a refrence)

Here is a website that is really helpful at finding such jobs. I keep it bookmarked since I would love to one day quit my 9-5 and work with horses, but alas….bills need to be paid.
