Best way to clean a english saddle, girth, and other tack?

February 212010

i haven’t riodden for a few years [i used to every saturday] and my saddle is wicked dusty, so, tips plz? thanks!

First, get a damp sponge and wipe off all of the dust that you can. Then, get some leather soap and clean it. If you havent ridden in that long and the saddle is not in the best shape, you might want to use Leather CPR, which can be bought at most tack shops or ordered online. I use Farnam’s Leather New Foam, which has worked well, but I didnt have particularly dusty tack. I would try the leather CPR since my trainer uses it on all of her older dusty stuff.

If you dont know how to clean tack, you can just follow the directions on the bottle/package. Its pretty simple! just dont use too much soap!

hope this helps!

i could go into great detail about this topic, considering i wrote it out on ehow.com i’ll spare everyone the details and simple run down.

    1. dust off everything with dry rag. try to get most the dust and dirt off that way first.
    2. use leather soap, i perfer the soap/conditionar in one spray bottle (commonly found in most tack stores), and i use that as directed.

well try to get the dust off by using a wet rag or washcloth. then if you have any mold on the saddle ONLY use window cleaner it works.use saddle oil to clean it and mae it shiny.
