They send you this thing you put on your horse’s back that will mold its shape, and then have you take a bunch of pictures at different angles and send it in and they’ll make a custom saddle to fit your horse. I can’t remember the name of them.

There are a lot! Looks like you have some researching to do! Or at least some back tracking! You can search sites online for certain custom saddlerys. Remember next time you buy anything bigger or more quality for horses to write the date (or just the year) of when you got it, what brand it is in case you lose the papers/tags that came with it or if the symbol rubs off, and where you got it so that you can find it faster! If you buy it used, be sure to ask the prior owner all of these things too! Hope this helps!

There are several different "impression" products like that, but they all have one major drawback: none of them ship well. We’ve had several customers try to send impressions of their horse’s backs, and they either wind up broken, misshapen or melted from sitting in a hot UPS truck.
The best way to order a custom saddle is to do (or have a fitter do) a comprehensive and accurate template of your horse’s back. We order all of our bench-made and custom saddles that way. Once done, it can’t be distorted or destroyed, short of shredding or setting fire to it. Different saddle companies ask for different measurements, so be sure you know what your company needs, and be sure that the template is accurate.
There are great instructions for taking a pretty comprehensive template at http://www.trumbullmtn.com/Other_Pages/wither_trace/wither_trace_1.htm. The site also has instructions for taking photos: http://www.trumbullmtn.com/Other_Pages/saddlefit/fitting_photos.htm. Good luck!
