Dover Saddlery… How do you feel about the company?

I was just wondering how horse people feel about Dover Saddlery. Do you order from them often? How is their service, are they easy to work with? How are their products? I want to order a new saddle but can’t decide who to buy it with. Dover seems to be my best choice but I’ve never ordered from them before. Thanks!

Dover is ok- There prices are a little high, and you can usually find the product cheaper elsewhere if you know where to look. Customer service is usually good, but a few of the people are very rude. On the plus side, Dover’s great when you have to exchange / return something. Their products are usually good, but remember, you get what you pay for. As someone said, shipping prices are a little high. Another bad thing about Dover, is that a lot of their products are out of stock, and it usually takes a few weeks before they get whatever you need.

I’ve never ordered a saddle from Dover, but if you know that you like the saddle, and you know what size fits your horse, websites from the UK have most saddles for hundreds cheaper (even with shipping) than what you find in the US.

    Excellent selection
    Mostly good quality products
Dubious customer service; it’s hit or miss
    Expensive shipping
    Avg speed shipping times

My suggestion is you find a used version of the exact saddle you want, including seat & tree size, then order the identical version new from Dover so you don’t have to play games needing to return it.

I really like Dovers. It is a bit pricey, but definitely not more so than what you’d expect from a saddlery. The service has been great each time I’ve been there, and theres always an employee to help you find you need. They are helpful, but not in an in-your-face type of way. Their products are great, I’ve had the same helmet from them for 4 years and not a problem! Plus, they are one of the few stores with boots in my size : )
    Overall, an awesome place.

I’ve tried all sorts of online horse stores (Back in the Saddle, Chicks Saddlery, Jeffers Equine and a whole bunch more). Dover is by far my favorite. I’ve ordered just about everything for my horse from them because they really do hold up to their satisfaction guarantee. Most of the stuff is very fairly priced and I have never had an issue with it. The customer service is great for the most part (there’s always the occasional moron) and they stand behind their products.

I would buy from Dover and not worry a bit about a new saddle. I would definitly make sure you want THAT saddle before ordering because shipping a saddle is a bear.

They have a great variety of products that appeals to every type of English rider.

I have ordered several things from there and customer service is wonderful! I got a DVD and it was skipping so I called them and they sent me a return form. I returned it and they replaced the video free of charge.

If you want to look at other tack stores I recommend.

The good thing about Dover is that you can test a saddle. Just pay the money for the saddle, test it out for however long and then send it back. Buy it if you like it but you don’t have to if you don’t like it.

I think that Dover is a great company. I’ve purchased a lot of things from them. Their catalog has tons of items.

I’ve never had to return anything.

    Good luck on the saddle.

I’ve used Dover for several orders. The customer service is quite good. Once I had a box that was mis-delivered by UPS and Dover sent me a replacement order via Fedex overnight as soon as I reported the problem.

Sometimes they are a little slow to ship, but not seriously slow.
