I am interested in learning about antique/vintage saddlery and tack.?

I would appreciate some suggestions for reading material or other sources of knowledge on the subject. Thanks!

here are some of the books i have on vintage saddles.
old cowboy saddles and spurs, fourth edition by dan and sebie hutchins.
old cowboy saddles and spurs, seventh edition by gretchen and mike graham.
another good book that has a lot of history of the cowboys trappings is
cowboys and the trappings of the old west by william manns and elizabeth clair flood
these are good books but dont have all the saddle makers in them and sometimes you have to do a little more research online or finding some collectors.

  3. This guy is REALLY informative when it comes to the old silver saddles and tack. Matter of fact, I sold him my old Bohlin bit back in ‘04 for his museum.

  4. Another thing to look for is antique catalogs. That is where I got a lot of info when I was researching tack and clothing for my sidesaddle parade outfit. Just hit up some antique shops and see if they have catalogs, there are even some places who deal in these old catalogs that have re prints. Check out the cowboy mounted shooting association, they are into the old west stuff. From tack, to clothing and guns. They are a great place to get info, many of their members run stores with supplies and books.

Good luck, and have fun learning!
