Big Horn saddle?

February 212010

What do you all think of the Big Horn Western Saddles? Are they good quality? Last a long time?
I found one at a tack shop for $325, which I thought was a pretty good deal for that saddle..I haven’t tried it on my horse, Sonny, yet due to I have to wait and get my parents approval to do so…but I’ll hopefully be trying it on Thursday.
The saddle I saw was this one:

What do you think of it? Worth $325 (don’t say no cause you can get it for less on that website…I don’t like buying saddles on-line…plus I don’t know if it would fit my horse yet)
@CR
I WANT a synthetic…I can’t lift a real leather one…and I ain’t paying $800 for a saddle that I’m just going to pleasure ride in

I have this saddle and love it. It is comfortable. And for trail riding it has lasted a long time. I have other Big horn saddles also. I don’t have any complaints about any of them. Just make sure it fits your horse. Doesn’t matter how good the saddle is if your horse doesn’t like it. I also paid more then that for it so your getting a good price.

    I recommend wintec saddles because they can get wet. they are durable. and the seats are really comfortable. I have had my wintec for 7 years and i have had a 16 hand Thoroughbred a 14.2 hand palomino quarter horse, and my 13.3 pony. fits all horses pretty much. the stirrups are very wide range so that your height fits pretty well. also cheaper (: and from country supply full quarter horse bar and standard quarter horse bar

    I’d hold off buying it…it’s a synthetic. You get what your pay for in a saddle, not just Big Horn, and I’d like mine to last me awhile. Look for a used one, in good shape, no saddle tree damage, at your tack shop.

    Edit: Sorry, won’t change my mind on this one…Buy a barrel saddle then if a regular saddle is to heavy for you……

    I use the Big Horn synthetic and have ridden their leather, I LOVE them! I find them to be well balanced and fit my horse. And it gives me a secure seat. I have one of the first Big Horn synthetics. It’s over 10 years old and we still use it. That should say it all.

    I have two Big Horn saddles. the one you have, and their endurance model. I LOVE THEM and recomend them to everyone, the only thing is explaining how to tie a centerfire girth the first few times for the endurance. $325 is a great buy for a saddle that will last years

    If you are paying for the saddle, and you are a teen, I can see where the price would sell the saddle. Just remember the synthetic saddles do not have the same shelf life as the leather ones. Yes the leather ones are much heavier, but something to think about. The saddle does look like a decent saddle for sure…but it is your horse and your money and your butt that is going into the saddle. If the saddle fits…and you like it…go for it.
