Western saddle question?!?!?

February 232010

ok i asked this earlier under "corriente saddles" okay well do you know anything about corriente saddles? theres this one at a local tack shop near me and i really like it, have you had any experience with them? i am going to be barrel racing in it. thanks in advance!
oh! and the company is in new mexico
oh and the prices are really cheap too :)

My criteria for saddles is:

1. Does it fit my horse and can I correct for my horse’s weight loss and gain throughout the year with padding? Can my horse move his shoulder freely in it?

2. Is the saddle comfortable for me (you know where).

3. Is the saddle suitable for the work I want to do? Is the craftsmanship and materials that went into the making excellent? Can I adjust the rigging for the job?

4. Since I am no longer young, how heavy is the saddle?

That is about it in a nutshell. My personal preference is an A fork or Slick Fork, high back with a round skirt and adjustable riggins with an option of using a belly strap.

    deffinetly.
    they are my favourite brand!
I also love weaver and cicle y, which would be another if you decide not to buy the corriente saddle.

I haven’t personally rode in one, but they look to be of great quality!
I would definitely consider that brand.

Before you buy that saddle, I would look at a Pro Rider Saddle (www.proridersaddlery.com). I have 2 with ostrich skin seats that I absolutely adore. They fit all of my horses and look great, too. And they’re not way up there on the prices. I really like how they set me up for my turns because I have 2 horses with really snappy turns and these saddles don’t let me get behind my horse. I’ve sat in a LOT of different saddles and none compare to the Pro Riders except Caldwell saddles (www.caldwellsaddle.com) but they’re very pricey. Beware of the Caldwells-once you sit in one, you’ll never want a different saddle.

Also, I would definitely make sure that saddle fit my horse before I purchased it. Saddles can play a big part in your performance and your horse’s, so I would definitely take my time and make a well-informed decision.
