I’m getting a horse with a wider back (I’m so excited) because he is a big beautiful horse. do you like wintec
March 92010
Thank you all ( i would have wrote it will the question but ran out room!)
yes! i only get to ride in a gel-seated wintec once in a while but they are like heaven for the horse rider! they are easy to maintain, schooling, primary and trillium show appropriate (maybe not a or b circut though) and super comfy. and another bonus: they have an interchangable gullet system! yay(clap clap) so if one day you have to sell your horse, your saddle will fit anyother horse you ride (unless its a really fat warm blood or a very anorexic TB lmao) good luck and go with wintec they are totally worth the price. oh ya congrats and have fun with ur new horsie!!!

Wintecs are a fantastic alternative to leather, although I prefer leather (the Pessoa’s and Amerigo’s), Wintecs are faaantastic to ride in, easy to maintain and are definatley excellent for fitting with an easy adjustable gullett system!
You cant go wrong with a saddle you can hose down after a sweaty ride or in a dirty situation! Definatley less maintenance! Only downfall is, if you want to compete, be careful bc some competitions (dependant on the level and dicipline) dont allow anything but leather, but if its just for leasure and lower level competitions, excellent choice!!!!

I love wintec. In fact I have the wintec Isabella Dressage saddle. I am also getting the close contact saddle. The best thing about wintec is that you don’t have to clean them very often and they have the adjustable gullet! Goodluck!

i would have to say that this is probably going to have alot of biased answers. most people who are fans of leather have no clue what you are talking about since it is a brand… therefore you will mostly get answers from people who like that brand. personally i like the leather saddles. i like the smell, the look, the feel of it. however there are times when having a synthetic saddle could be good. however i will always choose a leather saddle… congrats on the new horse by the way

I’m a fan of synthetic saddles as well as leather but I prefer Thorowgood saddles. They make a Cob version with extra girth (cinch) straps, called balancing straps, to help them sit properly on a wide back and not "rock".
I prefer Thorowgood saddles because of their construction. It is far superior to Wintec. My Bare foot trimmer said they studied them at a convention. They stripped down one of each make of saddle, and she said she was shocked at how the Wintec was held together. She said she’d never put one on horses back again!

I like leather much better. However, wintec is good if you do a lot of trail riding in bad weather, or ride on the beach, or something.

I like thorowgood’s better, they build synthetic saddles not just in wider gullets, but over all wider styles to fit the horse.
There is a 4 billet system.
Have fun with your widey! I’m so excited for you!

Wintec saddles are great. They aren’t leather, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning them, and stuff. As far as I know, they are cheaper, and probably last longer than leather. But, I’m pretty sure you can’t show in them, if you’re interested in that. I would ask someone at the place where you are going to buy your saddle, and find a leather one you like and ask them to compare them. Wintecs are also lighter!!

The Wintec is a great everyday saddle, as long as it properly fits your horse. I’ve had students that have used them for several years. Usually, as students advance in riding, they want the traditional leather saddle since there endless options on fit. However, for casual riding, trail riding, etc. it should be a fine choice.

I love synthetic saddles period. I still have my first one (I got it about 15 years ago), which was a Wintec but now I only use it for starting youngsters because it is so worn, if they flip or lie down in it the saddle can’t be damaged. Granted the leather saddles may last longer but I evented for years in Synthetic saddles and to be honest I loved the ones with the suede seat because when you wear full seat breeches it’s like having velcro on your butt. They’re also much easier to clean and if you like to go swimming (either on purpose or not), your saddle will be fine…every try getting mould off a leather saddle? Eww!
The synthetic saddles are so much lighter on the horses’ backs and they seem to really appreciate it. My old event mare very obviously hated the leather saddles when I tried them again. Synthetic saddles also seem to be a lot nicer on the riders butts too!
I love them but everybody has their favourites.
